The New Parliament House 
Since the independence of Singapore in 1965, the number of Members of Parliament has steadily increased with succeeding general elections, in step with Singapore's development and growing electorate. This gave rise to the need for more seats in the Chamber, more space for expansion of the Parliament Library and administration and for more meeting and working rooms for Members, staff and the press. Together with the need to provide for 21st century broadcasting and information technology demands, it was decided that a new Parliament House will be built which will take S Parliament into the next millennium.
