Description

A densely populated island city state with over 5 million people in a land area of just 710sq km, Singapore has no natural aquifers, which makes water resource management a huge challenge. In the 60s and 70s, Singapore faced all the problems of rapid urbanisation - polluted rivers, water shortages and widespread flooding.

From the days of trying to overcome its water challenges, Singapore has turned its vulnerability into a strategic asset. By investing in water technology and adopting an integrated approach to water management in the last 40 years, it has developed a diversified and sustainable water supply system known as the Four National Taps comprising water from local catchment, imported water, ultra-clean, high-grade, reclaimed water branded NEWater and desalinated water.
