Singapore is home to more than 2,000 species of native and endemic plants. Despite losing more than 95% of our forests after colonisation, and rapid urbanisation and development since independence in the 1960s, our biodiversity remains resilient. Species once thought to be extinct have been rediscovered in recent years, but they remain vulnerable in the wild. As part of Singapore's Nature Conservation Masterplan, the National Parks Board (NParks) has put in place a Species Recovery Programme to help ensure the long-term survival of our rare and endangered native species in our City in Nature.
