Description

In this 2023 Collection of Singapore Stamps, the beautiful representations of Singapore are connected by images of the kaleidoscope in every chapter.

Kaleidoscope, named after its Scottish inventor David Brewster and derived from Ancient Greek, means “to observe beautiful forms”. Made with two or more reflecting surfaces tilted to each other at an angle, the images form a regular symmetrical pattern when viewed from the other end due to repeated reflection. As you turn the kaleidoscope tube, it results in an ever-changing view of contrasting colours and patterns.

A stamp now far exceeds its original function as a label used to mail letters and packages. It is also a piece of art which can be a representation of an event, object, or landmark. Using the kaleidoscope as an expression for stamps, the patterns of the images show an intertwining of the events and landmarks past and present where the diversity in Singapore is represented with a touch of inclusivity of differences.

Themed the “Kaleidoscope of Singapore”, the 2023 Collection of Singapore Stamps commemorates the Raffles Institution bicentennial, as well as the 50th anniversary of Sport Singapore, and not forgetting the opening of Bird Paradise in Mandai Wildlife Reserve after its move from the original Jurong site. Furthermore, the collection also showcases various landmarks of Singapore, including the five iconic buildings in the National Monuments issue. Also included in this collection is an exclusive issue which illustrates the transformation of Singapore’s postal services over the years.

Be mesmerized with this vibrant 2023 Collection of Singapore Stamps.
